How I work    /   Primary Techniques
Cumberland Muscle Therapy offers by appointment a massage
experience in a relaxing environment with skills honed by years of
experience.  Pressure is usually medium to deep depending on your
muscles' needs and your tolerance level.

Relaxing music helps you escape the distractions of the day.  If you
prefer you may choose the type of music or bring your own.  We can
focus the session in one of the following ways, depending on your
needs.
The massage table is equipped with the optional BodyCushion to give your back a break while you are lying face down. Armrests help you completely relax when you are lying face up.
Types of Massage Therapy

Relaxation Massage is strictly for relaxation.  Although pressure
remains medium to deep, the session is designed to help you relax.
Usually, the main focus is on Swedish techniques, especially
gliding, kneading, stretching, and range of motion.  This makes a
perfect treat for a special occasion or for those of you who respond
well to a lighter touch.

Wellness Massage is available for those of you who want to make
massage therapy part of your personal ongoing wellness plan.  You
can use this plan to manage ongoing problems such as headaches,
chronic stress, or chronic problems involving the muscular system.
Since the benefits of wellness massage accumulate over time, you
may find it convenient to purchase a wellness package of six or more
visits with a ten percent discount.  Deep Tissue Techniques are the
most prominent in this plan.

Clinical Massage focuses on seeking solutions to orthopedic or
sports related conditions or chronic or acute pain, using massage
therapy techniques to relax and balance the muscles and connective
tissue.  The intention is to restore normal tonus, function, and
balance to muscles involved and to the body as a whole.   The
primary technique used is NeuroMuscular Therapy.

Primary Techniques

Swedish Massage, the basis for western massage, employs gliding, friction,
kneading and other techniques for relaxation or to warm up your muscles to
prepare them for deeper work.

Deep Tissue Massage works on the deeper muscles with slow deep strokes or
static pressure.

NeuroMuscular Therapy employs the knowledge of anatomy and physiology and
precision techniques to correct muscle dysfunction, chronic and acute pain, and
postural distortion.
